Summer picnic

Come on out to Peanut Island on Sunday, June 21 and hang out with us! Yes, this is Fathers Day so bring your Dad and the whole family! Snorkeling, hanging out, barbequeing, and enjoying life.

Our plan is to gather on the eastern side of the island south of the docks. This area has grills and is close to the snorkeling areas. I have seen tons of fish, manatees, moray and other eels, and even a sea turtle out there. It truly is an epic snorkeling spot. If you’ve never been there, I can show you the best spot!

You can catch a water taxi from the Riviera Beach marina or from Sailfish Marina. He club will reimburse you for the cost of the water taxi!!!!!! There will be horse shoes, cornhole, and other games along with raffles and other prizes for paid members!!!!!!

So come on out, hang out, enjoy the local treasures, and support your club! Hope to see you and all of the Dads there!

We would also like to do a white elephant gift exchange. Please bring a gift wrapped reef related item (may also include livestock) to be randomly drawn by other members in attendance. Please try to keep the value of the items around $15-20 and fish candles or ties do not count as reef related!

Monthly Meeting!

PBMAS MEMBERS,

We would like to welcome all of you to join Reef Pro in his store from 6:30-8:00pm on October 27, 2014 for the monthly meeting. We will have snacks and sodas/juice/waters available during the meeting for all those attending.

Gilbert (owner of Reef Pro) was kind enough to host the meeting on such short notice. He will be giving a brief intro about his store and how he started. He has a great selection of fish and corals, along with tons of dry goods. He also has excellent RO/DI and saltwater that is always at the correct salinity.

For anyone who hasn’t been at a PBMAS meeting, to me it is more of a get together than a structured meeting. We look at tanks, talk about tanks, our obsession with coral and fish, what I did wrong, what you did right, what works for you maybe you want to kick the tires on a piece of equipment the host has installed in their system, which in this case their are a lot of tires to kick. (thanks Keith for this fairly accurate description )

If nothing else it is nice to get out meet the fellow reefers behind the screen names, and there is always some really nice coral/fish being given away in the free raffle so please come by and show your support for the club.

Keep checking back on this thread for more info….

This months meeting is at Dkchacon’s house (David). Here’s a introduction written by David:

My wife and I would like to invite all members to the monthly club meeting at our place. We welcome everyone to an afternoon of cold drinks, great snacks, exciting raffles, and good ol’ reef talk.

Saturday, August 30th.
3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

252 Davis Rd.
Palm Springs, FL 33461

My wife and I started reefing on what I would call on “accident”. She wanted starfish (thanks to Jimbo) and I wanted no pets. Our closest thing to keeping fish prior to this consisted of a bowl and a beta or gold fish. We bought our first aquarium February of 2013, it was a used 34 gallons RSM which was a Craigslist find. We bought it knowing very little of the hobby. I soon realized two things: 1. I like the idea of owning a piece of the ocean (although I had no idea what I was doing) 2. I really dislike scratched glass (this thing was so scratched up that the glass looked almost frosted). The rest is history, our current systems are a 76 gallon half round mixed reef (established May 2013) and a 16 gallon zoa dominated IM Nuvo (established November 2013).
